DU Student Found Dead in Yamuna After Signature Bridge Tragedy: CCTV Failure Raises Concerns

The body of 19-year-old Sneha Debnath, a student at Delhi University, was recovered from the Yamuna River on Sunday, ending a nearly week-long search. Sneha was reported missing since July 7th after allegedly jumping from the Signature Bridge. She had reportedly sent messages to friends indicating her intentions.

Family’s Plea for Help and Investigation into CCTV Malfunction

Sneha’s family, including her father, a retired Army officer, had made desperate appeals for help in locating their daughter. The tragic incident has brought to light a critical safety issue: the reported malfunction of 60 CCTV cameras on the Signature Bridge. This raises serious concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of surveillance systems in preventing such tragedies.

Demands for Accountability and Improved Security Measures

The lack of functioning CCTV cameras has fueled public outrage and demands for accountability. The incident underscores the need for regular maintenance and monitoring of security systems to ensure public safety, especially at vulnerable locations like the Signature Bridge. The investigation into Sneha’s death continues, with authorities working to understand the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
