Protect Yourself from e-PAN Card Phishing Emails
Taxpayers are being targeted by sophisticated phishing emails disguised as legitimate e-PAN card downloads, according to a warning from PIB Fact Check. These deceptive emails aim to trick you into revealing your sensitive personal information.
How to Spot an e-PAN Phishing Email
These fraudulent emails often appear convincing, using official-looking logos and language to lure unsuspecting victims. Be wary of emails that:
- Ask for personal information like your PAN number, Aadhaar details, or bank account information.
- Contain suspicious links or attachments. Never click on links or download attachments from unverified sources.
- Use generic greetings instead of addressing you by name.
- Pressure you to act quickly or threaten consequences for not complying.
What to Do if You Receive a Suspicious Email
If you receive an email you suspect is a phishing attempt related to your e-PAN card, do not interact with it. Instead, follow these steps:
- Do not click on any links or open any attachments.
- Report the email to the appropriate authorities, such as PIB Fact Check or your local cybercrime cell.
- Delete the email immediately.
