Arunachal CM: Our Border is with Tibet, Not China – Brahmaputra Dam Threat

Amidst ongoing territorial disputes, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has firmly stated that the state shares its border with Tibet, not China. This declaration comes as China continues construction on a controversial dam project along the Yarlung Tsangpo River, known as the Brahmaputra in India.

Concerns over Brahmaputra Dam Project

Mr. Khandu expressed serious concerns about the potential ramifications of the dam, referring to it as an “existential threat.” He highlighted the risk of devastating water release from the dam, which could have catastrophic consequences for downstream communities in Arunachal Pradesh and other parts of India.

Impact on Water Security

The dam project has raised alarms about water security in the region. Experts believe the dam could give China significant control over the Brahmaputra’s water flow, potentially impacting agriculture, livelihoods, and the overall ecosystem downstream.
