India and Saudi Arabia Partner to Secure India’s Food Future
In a move to bolster its food security, India has forged a crucial partnership with Saudi Arabia. This landmark agreement involves Saudi mining giant Ma’aden and three major Indian firms: Indian Potash Limited (IPL), Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO), and Coal India Limited (CIL).
Long-Term Fertilizer Supply Secured
The agreement guarantees a consistent supply of 3.1 million metric tons (MT) of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer annually to India for the next five years. This essential nutrient will support Indian farmers and contribute to stable food production. The deal also holds the potential for a five-year extension, further solidifying the collaboration between the two nations.
Boosting Food Security Amidst Global Uncertainty
This strategic partnership comes at a crucial time, enhancing India’s self-reliance in fertilizer production and mitigating potential disruptions to the global supply chain. The assured supply of DAP fertilizer helps protect Indian farmers from price volatility and ensures they have the resources needed for successful harvests.
