Bihar Elections 2025: Easier Voter ID Options on the Table
In a move to potentially simplify voter identification for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the Supreme Court has suggested expanding the accepted forms of ID.
Supreme Court Encourages Broader Voter ID Acceptance
On July 10, the Supreme Court urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to consider accepting Aadhaar cards, ration cards, and EPIC (Elector’s Photo Identity Card) as valid proof of identity for voters during the special electoral roll revision currently underway in Bihar. This revision is in preparation for the 2025 Assembly elections.
Revision Process Continues as Court Awaits ECI Response
The Court has sought a response from the ECI regarding their stance on this matter. Importantly, the ongoing revision process has not been halted and will continue as planned. This suggestion from the Supreme Court could significantly impact voter participation by making it easier for citizens to register and exercise their right to vote.
